Preparation.
1. Place the new seal into a bag of oil for a few hours before installing to loosen it up.
2. Completely clean off the seal with some carb cleaner.
3. Check the area where the seal will be placed. Make sure it is very clean.
4. It isn't really
needed but I use high-temp silicon sealant on the seal before installing it.
To install seal, slowly
hammer the seal into place, going around the seal in a
circling pattern.
If you kink the seal while installing it, the seal is ruined.
Keep hammering until the seal bottoms out. It should
be flush with the case when done.
Check the flywheel before installing. Mine had a bad groove in it. I used
some 240 grit and polished the edge out.
Install the flywheel. Use a Flathead screwdriver on the left side to
hold it while you tighten down on your new flywheel bolts. Be careful not to knock the crankshaft
in. Notice: Always use new bolts. They are of the stretch variety and shouldn't be reused. If you place the flywheel close to the crankshaft end and let the bolts draw it onto the crankshaft end you shouldn't run into the problem of pushing the crankshaft into the engine.
Torque the flywheel bolts.
Nm 58-62 or Ibf ft 43-46.
Place clutch spring onto the flywheel.
You might have to hold it there, because nothing really holds it on. You may also
want to put a dab of grease on the back where it touches the flywheel before installing it.
A little grease on the ends of the spring where it hits the pressure plate wouldn't hurt either.
Install outer clutch pressure plate. It looks like a
top hat and should be placed with the top into the spring so the clutch plate
surface is showing.
Install the clutch disc with the long end of the spine away
from the engine.
Install inner clutch pressure plate. You should have checked
the outer plate for heat spots and cleaned them up, if there were any. Both of my plates
had some ruff spots, but they worked out easily with a polish tool.
Install the outer clutch pressure plate. You need to
place the spacers between this plate and the inner plate at this time. I found
it's simpler to assemble the whole clutch with the bolts in it first.
Install bolts.
Do the reverse of the process listed on the removal page.
Centering the clutch. Before tightening clutch
bolts you need a centering tool to line the clutch up. If the clutch
isn't lined up correctly the trany will not fit onto the engine. I just eyed it.
